Join our team and we will pay for certifications! If you are willing to commit to six months of employment, we will offer the training for free (up to a $500) value.

Coming in 2026! Thanks to a grant* in 2026, the Mount Rainier Pool will be hosting free trainings and certifications for potential lifeguards, swim instructors and recertifications. This is for all area swim providers**. More information to come. (Note-*Grant provided by King County Parks. **Mount Rainier Pool applicants will have priority for open spots.)

Not a great swimmer! We have positions for you to work, and we will work with you to improve your swimming to pass the test!

Other Information!  The Des Moines Pool Metropolitan Pool District (District) continually builds a high-quality workforce, fosters a positive work culture, and promotes a learning environment.  Training and certifications are available to ensure the delivery of exceptional customer service to our District and surrounding communities.

Certification and Training Opportunities (Updated 11/06/2025)

The District continually offers Lifeguard and Swim Instructor Certifications. We are building an interest list for potential candidates.     • All participants must be able to meet the following physical requirements:
      • Must be 16 years or older at the completion of the course
        • Front Crawl, Back Crawl, Breaststroke, Elementary Backstroke, Sidestroke – 25 yards
        • Butterfly – 15 yards
        • Back float for 1 minute (floating or sculling)
        • Tread water for 1 minute

        • Summer Break Class*, Monday-Thursday, June 22-25, 11am-4pm
        • LIFEGUARD TRAININGS: Click here to sign up for notifications of the next class. We plan on having training the week of Highline School District Winter Break and Spring Break (Coming Soon), Early Summer (June), and Late Summer (August). We may add or cancel a class time depending on interest. Dates for all classes are to be determined, as they are dependent on applicant and instructor availability. We also may have a closure this Spring (2026) that may change availability of trainings.

      • LIFEGUARD CERTIFICTION(LG): The American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification program trains participants in water rescue skills, CPR/AED, and first aid to prepare them to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. Successful completion results in a two-year nationally recognized certification for professional lifeguards. Click here for more information.
        • Holiday Break Class*, Monday-Wednesday, December 29-31 & Friday, January 2, 10am-3pm
        • Winter Break Class*, Friday-Monday, February 13-16, Noon-5pm
        • Spring Break Class*, Monday-Thursday, April 6-9, Noon-5pm
        • Summer Break Class*, Monday-Friday, June 29-July 3, Noon-5pm
      • LIFEGUARD RECERTIFICATION: The American Red Cross Lifeguard Recertification course refreshes and tests participants’ rescue, CPR/AED, and first aid skills to ensure continued readiness for aquatic emergencies. Upon successful completion, participants receive a renewed two-year lifeguard certification. Click here for more information.
