Coming in 2026! Thanks to a grant* in 2026, the Mount Rainier Pool will be hosting free trainings and certifications for potential lifeguards, swim instructors and recertifications. This is for all area swim providers**. More information to come. (Note-*Grant provided by King County Parks. **Mount Rainier Pool applicants will have priority for open spots.)

Other Information! The Des Moines Pool Metropolitan Pool District (District) continually builds a high-quality workforce, fosters a positive work culture, and promotes a learning environment. Training and certifications are available to ensure the delivery of exceptional customer service to our District and surrounding communities.

The District continually offers Lifeguard and Swim Instructor Certifications. We are building an interest list for potential candidates. - Must be 16 years or older at the completion of the course
- Front Crawl, Back Crawl, Breaststroke, Elementary Backstroke, Sidestroke – 25 yards
- Butterfly – 15 yards
- Back float for 1 minute (floating or sculling)
- Tread water for 1 minute

We may add or cancel a class time depending on interest. Dates for all classes are to be determined, as they are dependent on applicant and instructor availability. We also may have a closure this Spring (2026) that may change availability of trainings.

- LIFEGUARD CERTIFICTION(LG): The American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification program trains participants in water rescue skills, CPR/AED, and first aid to prepare them to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. - LIFEGUARD RECERTIFICATION: The American Red Cross Lifeguard Recertification course refreshes and tests participants’ rescue, CPR/AED, and first aid skills to ensure continued readiness for aquatic emergencies.
